A mixed-use development called Millbrook Market will bring new opportunities to the City of Steinbach.

Plans to erect the 16-building compound near Superstore were made official earlier this month. Keith Unger is one of the Realtors working on the project.

“Why am I doing this?” he asks. “It’s a beautiful 20-acre piece of land on a very high-traffic strip that has just been sitting there for pretty much forever.”

Unger says the space will benefit Steinbach in two major ways. First, he notes, it will facilitate economic growth.

“Steinbach is growing, and we are the hub of the southeast and this location will be desirable for new retail.”

With Sunday shopping on the horizon, Unger expects consumer habits are about to change. This development can respond to that influx of shoppers. He says multiple local businesses have already recognized these perks and are considering relocating to the site.

The other significant way Millbrook Market will profit Steinbach is in its unique residential offerings.

“There’s a really good synergy in having residents so near amenities,” states Unger, “and we feel that is what people want.”

Specifically, Unger says, the site will aid people who are less mobile as grocery stores and recreation options will be located immediately nearby.

Perhaps the most common misconception surrounding Millbrook Market is the speed with which Steinbach residents expect to see it up and running. Unger stresses that this is not one of those projects that will take a single summer to complete.

“It will take five or ten or maybe more years to fill.”

Though it will be a time-consuming process, Unger says building such a large development up from scratch has innumerable advantages and he is excited to see them come to life.
