Southeastern Manitoba can expect a mixed bag of precipitation this weekend.

“On Saturday, we’ll see some light snow falling from a band moving up from North Dakota,” says Scott Kehler, President of Weatherlogics Inc. “And then on Sunday, might see almost every form of precipitation. Everything from snow to rain, freezing rain and ice pellets, then later on Sunday, changing back to snow. So, it'll be quite a variable system with all sorts of things to come.

We can also expect blowing snow tonight which will reduce visibility and the temperature rising to zero by morning.

The southwestern part of Manitoba can expect 25 to 35 cm of snow from this storm. The strong wind will create blizzard conditions.

This system will move out of the Southeast region on Monday, and then another storm is expected a couple of days later.

“There is another system potentially tracking through southern Manitoba in the middle of next week. Right now, the track of that has the worst of it, likely going again through western Manitoba, but it's still far enough away that we could see that track change and also, it doesn't look nearly as strong as this system. So regardless, we're not anticipating nearly as much snow with that one.”

Kehler says it looks like warm, dry weather could soon settle into the Southeast.

“I’ve taken a look into the longer range and to me it looks like about the next week or so will be fairly unsettled and colder, but starting probably next weekend, there are signs of a warmup, and it does look like as we go towards the middle of the month, warmer weather returning that could end up melting a lot of the snow.”
