A Steinbach woman is doing her best to alleviate some of the loneliness seniors are feeling.

Carla Anne Coroy says she felt the need to do something tangible after seeing the effect level red restrictions were having on seniors.

“I was praying about it. Asking, how can I make a difference?,” shares Coroy, “I can sit and be stressed, but that’s not going to actually change anything, and then I thought, I wonder if we would be allowed to write some letters.”

Coroy immediately got in contact with some seniors facilities representatives and expressed her idea. As it turns out, it was a hit.

“Initially, I thought I would just write a few letters, but then when I started seeing the interest I was like ‘uh oh, I cannot do this by myself’.”

After setting up a Facebook and Instagram page, Coroy began promoting and recruiting other writers. She also suggests artists get involved even if they do not want to write letters, suggesting they submit a drawing or photograph to help brighten up somebody’s room.

Coroy admits the project took a while to get off the ground, but now she is starting to see it pick up steam. “I’ve got people from Winnipeg, I’ve got people from out of province that are wanting to be a part of it, and I’ve got some people that are doing it in their own city because they love the idea.”

Coroy says she has created three templates that people may use if they would like; a basic one, a faith-based one, and one for kids.
