Steinbach city council would like some clarification from the Department of Highways and Transportation.  The Department has recently opposed some subdivisions in Steinbach and also ordered 2 developers in the east end to do a traffic study regarding the impact more housing will have on Highway #52.  Executive policy chair David Banman wonders whether the Highways Department plans to start charging for access to highways in the city.  He would like some clear answers so the city can plan accordingly.  Deputy Mayor Dwight Reimer questions the need for the study on Highway #52 east.
He says there are no apparent traffic problems in the area.  Furthermore, Reimer adds the Highways Department has often said it has no money for improvements and so the study could be a waste of cash.
