It was their most consistent effort of the season so far and it came at a perfect time as the Steinbach Pistons dealt the Portage Terriers their first loss of the season in a 5-1 final at the TG Smith Centre.

For a struggling power play, getting an early opportunity was just what the doctor ordered and after a few decent looks, it was Max Neil who turned and fired a puck far side for his 3rd of the year giving Steinbach a 1-0 lead. Curtis Ireland and Carter Loney had the assists.

Ty Naakyens continued his strong play this year as he went streaking down the left hand side and fired a heavy wrist shot that was partially stopped but managed to find its way over the goalies shoulder and Naaykens continued to the net and cashed in on his own rebound to make it a 2-0 game. Kyle Bettens and Loney had the helpers.

More scoring, this time from the hardworking fourth line as David Queree snapped a wrister through the Portage goalie and in for his first of the season. A good rush from defender Caydin Cleland helped give Queree space and Troy Beauchemin had the secondary assist.

Another power play in the second period gave Steinbach even more offence as a great screen from Neil in front blocked the sight lines of the netminder and Ireland's wrist shot found its way through traffic for his second of the year. Loney capped off a big night with another assist, his third of the contest.

Shorthanded goals against continue to plague the Pistons as they gave up their 3rd shorty of the year when Reece Henry capped off a wonderful rush from Lane Taylor to cut the lead to 4-1. New Terrier Zac Patrick grabbed his first assist with his new club.

In the third, the Terriers started with a man advantage and came close to getting even closer but a shot from the point rang off the bar and stayed out.

Beauchemin picked up his first of the year in the third period as the pesky forward found a loose puck in front and buried a back-hander to push Steinbach's lead to 5-1. Rylan Clemons had the only assist on the goal.

Matt Lenz had to make a couple of big saves and finished the night with 20 saves. Steinbach had 28 shots on goal.

The Pistons power play finished 2-7 and a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill against the leagues best power play unit.

Steinbach remains at home for games against Swan Valley Friday and Dauphin on Saturday.
