The 2022 Manitoba Junior Hockey League draft took place on Saturday with the Steinbach Pistons adding 8 new prospects into the organization.

Head Coach/General Manger Paul Dyck along with Head Scout David Anning and Nick Lubimiv made the picks from inside the TG Smith Centre. They shared their notes on the selections.

 

Round 1: Jackson Kostiuk

Centre/Left Wing, 5'9 135 lbs, Rink Hockey Academy U18 Prep. 9 goals, 25 assists for 34 points in 35 games, 4 PIM's.

Coaches/Scout Notes: "Jackson is a highly skilled forward with top end speed. He is a treat to score every shift and works incredibly hard on both sides of the puck."

 

Round 2: Cameron Parr

 Left Wing, 5'9 180 lbs, Pembina Valley Hawks U18 AAA. 11 goals, 26 assits for 37 points in 37 games, 95 PIM's.

Coaches/Scout Notes: "Cameron is a high energy player that is always around the puck and consistently produces offense. He finishes his checks and is not fun to play against, which was quite appealing. "

 

Round 3: Carson White

Centre/Left Wing, 5'10 160 lbs, Rink Hockey Academy U16 Prep. 8 goals, 10 assists for 18 points in 32 games, 12 PIM's.

Coaches/Scout Notes: "Carson is another solid all-around hockey player that can play in any situation and succeed. He competes hard and does everything the right way.

 

Round 4: Brandon Watson

Forward, 5'4 115 lbs, Winnipeg Thrashers U17 AAA. 4 goals, 9 assists for 13 points in 31 games, 18 PIM's.

Coaches/Scouts Notes: "Brandon is an under the radar type player that is just coming into his own. He has tremendous patience with the puck and creates chances for his teammates."

 

Round 4: Dimitri Fortin

Goalie, 6'1 180 lbs, Winnipeg Bruins U18 AAA. 23 games played, .893 save percentage, 3.12 goals against average

Coaches/Scouts Notes: "Dimitri is technically sound and he has a presence in the crease. He reads the play well and should be a top goalie in AAA next year."

 

Round 5: Cole Penner

Forward, 5'5 108 lbs, Rink Hockey Academy U16 Prep, 1 goal, 9 assists for 10 points in 19 games, 6 PIM's.

Coaches/Scouts Notes: "Cole goes into the corners and comes out with the puck. He competes hard in both ends and loves doing the dirty work for his linemates."

 

Round 5: Luc De Gagne

Forward, height/weight NA, Eastman Selects AAA U17, 10 goals, 11 assists for 21 points in 34 games, 14 PIM's.

Coaches/Scouts Notes: "Luc sees the ice well and plays with poise. He skates well and contributes both offensively and defensively."

 

Round 7: Gavin Hodnett

Centre, 5'8 135 lbs, Rink Hockey Academy U18 Prep, 17 goals, 42 assists for 59 points in 35 games, 10 PIM's

Coaches/Scouts Notes: "Gavin is a gifted offensive talent. He will be a top 6 forward wherever he plays. He has a very high IQ and makes players around him better."
