The Mayor of Steinbach says businesses looking to get rid of their recycling have a couple of options.

Earl Funk says Eastman Recycling stopped providing recycling services for businesses back in May of 2022. But Funk points out, those arrangements had never been made by the city.

According to Funk, the City of Steinbach has only ever been responsible for ensuring residential recycling pickup, not business pickup. Those contracts were always signed between the business and Eastman Recycling.

Funk notes when Eastman Recycling announced it would end its service in Steinbach, the city hired Bristal Hauling to take care of the residential pickup. He says if there are businesses out there that are interested in having their recycling picked up, they can contact Bristal Hauling or another service provider.

One other option is for businesses to drop off the recycling themselves at the Steinbach Landfill. Funk explains the landfill now has the old Eastman self-serve recycle drop-off bins, which many businesses are using to get rid of their recyclables at no charge.

Meanwhile, Funk says it has been a fairly seamless transition from Eastman Recycling Services to Bristal Hauling. He notes there were some early glitches, but those have been sorted out. Funk says there has not been much negative feedback from the public toward the change.
