A man from Steinbach has been arrested and charged following a string of commercial robberies and a police chase in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Police Service say officers responded to a report of a commercial robbery at a food store on Henderson Highway around 8 P.M. on Monday. A lone male had entered the business and demanded money before fleeing in a stolen truck having not received any cash.

Shortly afterward, WPS officers were able to locate the man and the vehicle at a restaurant just a few blocks northwest on Henderson. The man immediately fled the scene in the stolen vehicle and drove dangerously through the North Kildonan area leading to a police pursuit. Officers were able to arrest the man at 8:22 P.M. after he attempted to abandon the vehicle on Edison Avenue.

The male was identified as 25-year-old Kyle Jeremy Pelletier from Steinbach. It was determined that the truck had been reported stolen in Fort Alexander on August 1st.

Members of the WPS Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation and Pelletier was linked to these three additional commercial robberies that all took place within the span of a week:

On Monday, August 3rd, a lone male entered a convenience store on Main Street in Winnipeg at 11 P.M. demanding money then left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Friday of the same week at 4 in the morning, a lone male attended a convenience store on Henderson Highway, produced a firearm, pointed it at the employee and demanded money. He received an undisclosed amount and fled.

Then on Sunday, August 9th, a lone male entered another convenience store at approximately 9:20 A.M. on Springfield Road and demanded money and product. Once again, he received an undisclosed amount and fled.

Following this string of robberies, Pelletier has been charged with:

  • Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Robbery (x3)
  • Disguise with Intent (x4)
  • Poss of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Possession of a Weapon (x2)
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x3)

He was detained in custody.
