A suspect from Steinbach was taken into custody after staff from Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) found that the building had been broken into in late July.

On July 18th, 2018 at 6:45 A.M. the Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to the Prince Charles building where damage was found throughout the school. With the assistance of the RCMP's Forensic Identification Service, investigators were able to determine that three suspects had broken into the buildings. Evidence gathered at the scene pointed officers in the direction of two males and a female, one of whom was known to have caused damage to the property in the past.

Canvassing of the community resulted in the first suspect being taken into custody in the late evening of July 18th. Joshua James Farrell, 21-years-old, of Steinbach, was held in police custody until such a time as he could be brought before the court. The second suspect, 21-year-old Timothy Andrew Farrell of Portage la Prairie, was found later in the evening of July 19th and the third suspect, Destinee Catherine Finnie, an 18-year-old female from Portage la Prairie, turned herself in to police custody.

All three stand accused of breaking and entering, mischief to property over $5000 and being disguised with intent to commit an offense.
