A four way stop is being considered for the intersection of Giesbrecht Street and McKenzie Avenue in Steinbach. A resident has made the request to Steinbach City Council.

The matter was discussed Tuesday evening at City Council meeting.

"That is obviously a part of the city that has seen a lot of growth recently," says Councillor Michael Zwaagstra. "So there is a lot of traffic there that was not there before because of all the new homes that have been built."

"There is so much more traffic and new housing and there is more to come," adds Mayor Earl Funk.

Currently that intersection is a two way stop, with stop signs along Giesbrecht.

Zwaagstra asked if the City's Administration might be able to add that to its annual traffic study, noting that is an intersection that has not really been studied before.

City Manager Troy Warkentin says this sort of request would fall outside the scope of the annual study.

"Suggestion would be that Administration could arrange to do the counts internally and provide a report back to Council later on this fall," notes Warkentin.

At the request of Council, Mayor Earl Funk asked Administration to proceed with this plan.
