The food bank in Ste. Anne is getting an increase in its annual operational grant from the town.

Following a presentation to council members, a motion was approved to provide Accueil Kateri Centre with a $10,000 operating grant. This is a $2,000 increase from what council had initially been prepared to provide.

Mayor Yvan St. Vincent says it costs the food bank more to operate and council appreciates everything the organization offers.

St. Vincent is impressed with how far the food bank has come over the years.

“And now to see them essentially appear to be a leader in province as far as some of the things they’re doing, is a testation to the phenomenal work they’ve been doing.”

St. Vincent says they are happy to support this asset to the community.

“Along with the municipality, the R.M. (of Ste. Anne), we've always provided them with an operation grant. And unfortunately, due to the cost of everything and the more unfortunate part is the increase in clients that they've seen, that operations grant is slowly creeping up a little bit every year. But when you consider the great work they do, it's essentially a no-brainer to help support them in that way.”
