St. Pierre fire crews were able to save a house from burning down last night after a fire broke out on the deck.

Deputy Fire Chief Chris Harvey says they were called to a residence on Dandenault Street in the new 55 plus development just after 9pm.

He notes the deck and the outside corner of the house sustained significant damage but there was only minor smoke damage inside the house. Harvey says the cause appears to be electrical.

"Possibly from a plug or something they had plugged into the wall. It's cold this time of year so everybody's got space heaters and stuff on there," he adds.

Crews were on scene for about three hours making sure the home was completely secure.

Harvey says there were no injuries.
