The Eastman Selects scored four goals in the first period and added four more in the second en route to a 9-1 victory over the Interlake Lightning at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour. Isaac Gordon scored twice for the Selects and singles went to Kaycee Coyle, Ryder McLure, Carter Johannesson, Bryce Warkentine, Braden Berube, Merik Bowles and Luke Mistelbacher. Ethan Penner made 28 saves as the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League leading Selects (29-5-3) won their seventh game in a row.

 

The Steinbach Huskies and Red River Mudbugs were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Friday night. Steinbach downed Macdonald 9-1 in Rosenort. The Huskies will face the Swarm in the opening round of the playoffs. Lucas Dyck and Braden Hildebrand scored three goals each as Red River beat Springfield 7-5 in St. Jean. Bryson Loewen had the other Mudbugs goal. Kai Orchard, Desmond Plante, Owen Blocker, Ky Stewart and Nathan McDougall replied for the Xtreme.

 

In the Winnipeg High School Hockey League - Steinbach Regional dropped a 5-3 decision to the Westwood Warriors at the T.G. Smith Centre. Theoren Koop, Lewis Hartung and Troy Friesen did the goal scoring for the Sabres. SRSS netminder Hunter Fehr faced 28 shots.

 

The Steinbach Regional varsity boys basketball went on a 35-8 run in the fourth quarter and beat the Royals 91-54 in an exhibition game Friday night at Lord Selkirk Secondary School. Khean Keouth had 27 points, Fara Fola-Bolumole added 21 points and eight rebounds and Ali Ballares had four steals for the Sabres.

 

The Canadian Women’s hockey team improved its preliminary round record to 2-0 at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Brianne Jenner and Sarah Nurse scored three goals each as Canada bounced Finland 11-1. Deloraine’s Ashton Bell had a pair of assists while Ste. Anne’s Jocelyne Larocque also had a helper. Canada’s next game is against the Russian Olympic Committee on Sunday. John Morris & Rachel Homan have 4-2 round robin record in Mixed Doubles Curling. Morris & Homan lost 8-2 to Oskar Eriksson & Almida de Val of Sweden and beat Christopher Plys & Vicky Persinger of the United States 7-2.
