The Winnipeg Blue Bombers three-day rookie camp begins today with over 70 players looking to earn an invite to main camp which begins Sunday. Canadian Football Hall of Fame receiver and Blue Bombers legend Milt Stegall will be a participant on day one of rookie camp. The practice session is scheduled to run from 10:30 a.m.-12:55 p.m. at the field beside Winnipeg Soccer Federation South. Stegall, now 54, will also attend some team meetings. The session is open to fans. Stegall is one of the most-decorated players in CFL history. He holds the CFL record for career touchdowns (147), most touchdowns in a season (23) and retired as the league’s all-time receiving yardage leader (15,153) – a mark that was later broken by Geroy Simon. A nine-time CFL All-Star, Stegall holds many Blue Bombers receiving records including receptions (854), yards (15,153), touchdowns (144), 1000-yard receiving seasons (10) and most seasons leading the team in receiving (7). He broke into the CFL in 1995 and appeared in 199 CFL games – all with the Blue Bombers – including the 2001 and 2007 Grey Cups. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2002, the Blue Bombers Most Outstanding Player in 1997, 2000 and 2002 and was inducted in the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in 2009, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and added to the Blue Bombers Ring of Honour in 2016.


The Moose Jaw Warriors will meet the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League's championship series. Lynden Lakovic scored 36 seconds into overtime to lift Moose Jaw past the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 in the deciding seventh game of their Eastern Conference final. The Winterhawks eliminated the Prince George Cougars in six games in the Western Conference final. Game one goes Friday in Portland. Warriors captain and Dominion City native Denton Mateychuk was the recipient of the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy presented annually to the WHL Defenceman of the Year. Mateychuk tallied 17 goals and 58 assists for 75 points and a +35 rating through 52 games. 


The San Jose Sharks won the NHL Draft Lottery. The Sharks are expected to select Boston University center Macklin Celebrini with the first overall pick. The 17-year-old native of North Vancouver, British Columbia was college hockey's youngest Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner and NHL Scouting Bureau's top-ranked prospect. The Chicago Blackhawks will have the second pick in round one followed by the Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadians and Utah. 


Jordan Binnington made 21 saves in recording the shutout as Canada blanked Hungary 4-0 in Budapest in a pre-tournament game before the start of the 2024 World Men's Hockey Championship. Dylan Guenther, Colton Parayko, Bowen Byram and Owen Power did the goal scoring for Team Canada who will face Great Britain in their preliminary round opener Saturday in Prague. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes final pre-season game scheduled for Tuesday afternoon was canceled due to unplayable conditions at Legends Field, the result of heavy rain overnight. The Fish will open the 2024 American Association season on Thursday in Texas against the Cleburne Railroaders. The Goldeyes home opener is Tuesday, May 21st versus the Chicago Dogs.
