La Broquerie’s Ecole St. Joachim Braves have earned a wildcard spot in the Provincial High School Baseball Championship which begins Thursday in Glenboro & Baldur. The Braves scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on for an 11-10 victory over the Morden Thunder Monday in Ile des Chenes. Eric Cote had a three-run homer in the fourth that tied the game at 4-4. Cote finished the afternoon with five runs batted in. Connor Tallaire, Carson Tallaire and Calem Normandeau all went two-for-four at the plate with an rbi and run scored. Steinbach Regional captured the Zone 13 championship banner last week in Mitchell.


Frank Peters pitched a complete game shutout as the Carillon Sultans downed the South Winnipeg Longhorns 12-0 Monday at Charleswood Park. Peters allowed just six hits and struck out seven in seven innings of work. Nate Christiuk, Josh Epp and Carson Epp drove in two runs each for the Sultans. Nick Wall had three rbi as Carillon improved to 3-1 in the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League. Christiuk, Epp, Epp and Wall combined for nine of the Sultans 12 hits. Carillon's next game is Thursday against the Springfield Braves at A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach. 


The Eastman Wildcats are tied with the Westman Magic for first place in the Manitoba Premier Softball League's U13 & U15 Divisions. The U13 Wildcats split a doubleheader with Central Energy on Saturday. Eastman won the opener 13-5 and lost the second game 11-6. The U17 Wildcats won three of four games on the weekend. Eastman split a doubleheader with Central Energy on Saturday. The Wildcats lost the opener 4-1 and won the second game 7-2. On Sunday Eastman defeated the Manitoba Thunder 10-0 & 10-0. The U15 Wildcats own a 4-3 record. 


Oakbank's Brett Howden, Brandon's Zach Whitecloud along with Winnipeg's Mark Stone and Keegan Kolesar and the rest of the Vegas Golden Knights are NHL Western Conference champions. William Karlsson had two goals and an assist and Adin Hill made 23 saves as Vegas blanked Dallas 6-0 and took the best of seven Conference final in six games. The Golden Knights will meet the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup final which begins Saturday in Las Vegas. 


After a day off, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers return to the practice field today. The Bombers, who defeated the Edmonton Elks 25-23 on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium, play their final exhibition game Friday night against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at IG Field. Today's practice session is from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
