Steinbach Pistons forward Ty Paisley has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey with the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 18-year-old Steinbach native had 17 goals and 13 assists in 53 regular season games during his rookie season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League last year and added five goals and five assists in 18 playoff games. Graduating Pistons forward Quinton Pepper will begin his freshman year with the Tommies this season.


Ottawa Senators prospect Ridly Greig will miss three-to-four weeks after suffering a separated shoulder at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton. Greig was injured during Canada's 6-3 victory over Switzerland in the quarterfinals. The 20-year-old forward, who was selected by the Senators in the first round (28th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, had three goals and three assists in five games at the World Juniors. The Brandon Wheat Kings captain had 26 goals and 63 points in 39 games in the Western Hockey League last season.


The Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship begins today in Thornhill, Ontario. Ten Manitobans are in the field including Adam Guenther, Tyson Ehnes, Jordy Lutz, Ben Bandura, Allan McDonald, Drew Jones, Brad Pardy, Curtis Markusson, Tyson Lodge and Lyle Mackenzie.

Ian Sagdal and David Washington each hit two-run homers as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the defending champion Monarchs 7-5 in Kansas City. It was Washington’s 29th home run of the season, which leads the American Association and now ties Sean Hearn (1998) and Juan Diaz (2009) for second on the Goldeyes’ single-season list.
