"Construction is booming."

That is how Steinbach Mayor Earl Funk describes the type of year it has been for building activity in the city.

Through the first seven months of 2022, there were building permits taken out for $58 million worth of construction. That includes about $28 million in residential.

"There have been times we've had whole years that weren't that high," explains Funk. "We are really experiencing great growth in our community."

Steinbach City Councillor Damian Penner says so far in 2022, there have been 134 total dwelling units added.

"So 134 families coming and calling Steinbach their home, which is another great thing to be seeing," he says.

Penner also highlights the number of permits taken out for new decks last month. In July alone there were permits pulled for nine decks.

"It's great to see that we're seeing a lot more deck permits," he says. "There are a lot of people enjoying our wonderful summer that we've been having this year."

Meanwhile, Funk says all of this construction activity shows that builders have a lot of confidence in the city. He adds it is a great feeling to know that Steinbach is a desirable place to live and do business.

"This has been a year where we've had another couple of large businesses that have come here and want to relocate and make this their head office," he adds. "I just think that puts a lot of confidence in Steinbach and our residents."
