The Winnipeg Goldeyes were eliminated from the American Association's West Division playoff race Wednesday night. The Fish dropped a 7-4 decision to the Sioux Falls Canaries. That loss coupled with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 6-4 win over the Lake Country Dockhounds mathematically eliminated Winnipeg from playoff contention. The Goldeyes (42-54) will close out the 2023 season with a four-game series against the Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field on the Labour Day long weekend. 


Reigning Manitoba champion Rhonda Orr is in a tie for fourth place heading into round two of the 2023 Canadian Senior Women's Golf Championship at the Mill River Golf Resort in Woodstock, Prince Edward Island. Orr opened with a four-over par 76 and trails first round leader Judith Kyrinis of Thornhill, Ontario by four shots. Tammy Gibson was 11-over par 83, Lisa Benson was 92 while Mary Turner and Heather Shayna were 94. 


Canada finished in first place in Pool A at the NORCECA Senior Women's Volleyball Continental Championship in Quebec City. Canada swept Puerto Rico 25-18, 25-13, 25-23 Wednesday night at the University of Laval and went 2-0 in the round robin. Outside hitter Alexa Gray of Calgary had 11 points and a serve ace for Team Canada who will play in the semifinals on Saturday.


Nathan Rourke will begin his NFL career on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice roster after clearing waivers. The former BC Lions quarterback was waived by Jacksonville on Monday as all 32 NFL teams got down to the league's mandatory 53-man roster limit ahead of the regular season opener.
