The Winkler Flyers were eliminated from the Centennial Cup Friday night. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions lost 4-2 to the Calgary Canucks in the quarterfinals in Oakville, Ontario. Mike Svenson and Zach Nicolas scored for the Flyers. Calgary will face the Melfort Mustangs and the Collingwood Blues will take on the Miramichi Timberwolves in the semifinals. The Timberwolves downed the Navan Grads 8-4 in the other quarterfinal.


Minnesota will meet Boston in the PWHL’s Walter Cup final. Taylor Heise scored twice including the winner in the third period as Minnesota defeated Toronto 4-1 in the deciding fifth game of their semifinal. Denisa Krizova and Sophia Kunin also scored for the Minnesota which won three straight after losing the first two games of the series. Rebecca Leslie replied for Toronto.


Canada will face Finland today (9:20 a.m.) at the 2024 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Prague. Host Czechia leads the standings in Group A with 12 points. Canada and Switzerland are next with 11 points each.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 6-4 victory over the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs. Dayson Croes had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Fish. Joey Matulovich earned the win with a five inning, seven strikeout performance in which he allowed four runs on seven hits. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson retired all six batters he faced to nail down the Goldeyes first save of the season.
