Cole Plowman made 23 saves in recording the shutout as the Steinbach Pistons defeated the Swan Valley Stampeders 7-0 at the Hylife Centre in La Broquerie. Trey Sauder, who was acquired from the Stamps last weekend, scored twice against his former team. Leo Chambers also had a pair of goals for the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions. Shane Burns, Brandon Funk and Kirk Mullen also scored for the Pistons.


The Steinbach Huskies and Macdonald Swarm were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Friday night. Ethan Unger scored twice and Darius Gagne had two assists as the defending champion Huskies downed Landmark 5-3. Blues captain Felix Asselin scored all three goals for Landmark. Griff Campbell scored twice and Logan Erb had a goal and an assist as the Swarm defeated Niverville 7-2. Dylan Peters and Finley Nurse replied for the Clippers.


The St. Malo Warriors and Beausejour Comets both lost Friday night. The Warriors fell 4-3 to the defending Capital Region Junior Hockey League champion Fishermen. Ryland Schroeder scored the go-ahead goal on the power play midway through the third period for Selkirk. Reece Unrau, Ben Dias and Jeremie Collette did the goal scoring for the hometown Warriors. Beausejour dropped a 4-2 decision to Lundar. Zachary Halldorson had three goals and an assist for the visiting Falcons. Mason Dubberly and Evan Leeson replied for the Comets.


Canada will meet Czechia in the semifinals today (8 a.m.) at the 2024 World Women’s U18 Hockey Championship in Zug, Switzerland. The United States will face Finland in the other semifinal.


The Red River Wild and Morden Bombers and Red River Wild were winners in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Friday night. Daniel Taillefer and Justin Baudry did the goal scoring and Mark Friesen made 33 saves as the Wild edged Warren 2-1. Dexter Kuczek had the lone goal for the Mercs. Jaden Townsend had a hat trick as the Bombers beat Ile des Chenes 6-4. Andrew Perrault scored the go-ahead goal on the power play at 11:16 of the third period and then sealed the deal with an empty netter with 40 seconds left. Tyler Peers had the other Morden goal. Riley Beauchemin, Derik Cook, Pearse Gare and Matt Osadick replied for the Northstars.


The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 7-3 to Swift Current at Westoba Place. Roger McQueen, Brett Hyland and Hayden Wheddon did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Steinbach’s Luke Mistelbacher had a goal and an assists for the Broncos. Brandon dealt captain Nate Danielson to the Portland Winterhawks at the trade deadline on Wednesday in exchange for forward Nicholas Johnson, defenseman Rhett Ravndahl, a first-round pick in the 2025 and 2027 Prospects Drafts as well as a fifth-round pick in 2026.


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 5-2 decision to the Laval Rocket. Brad Lambert and C.J. Suess scored for the Moose who have lost eight of their last night games.
