Curling Canada announced Friday afternoon that Team Einarson lead Briane Harris is ineligible to compete at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary due to unspecified reasons. Longtime alternate Krysten Karwacki has moved into the lead position. Karwacki curled 88% as the four-time defending champions defeated Laurie St. Georges of Quebec 8-2 on the opening draw Friday night.


Steinbach Regional was eliminated from the Winnipeg High School Hockey League playoffs. The SRSS lost 6-1 to the St. Paul’s Crusaders who took the best-of-three Platinum Promotions Division quarterfinal two games to one. Drew Heide had the lone goal for the Sabres.


The Steinbach Huskies and Lorette Comets have joined the Springfield Xtreme in round two of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League playoffs. Ethan Plett and Griffin Plett scored two goals each as the Huskies downed the St. Clements Gators 8-2 and swept the best-of-five quarterfinal in three straight. Tyler Van de Velde and Matt Ramsay had three goals each as the Comets beat the Macdonald Swarm 9-5 and took that series three games to one.


The Steinbach Pistons dropped a 3-2 decision to the Kings in Dauphin. Kirk Mullen and Brandon Funk did the goal scoring for the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end. Niverville lost 4-3 in a shootout to the OCN Blizzard. Kaycee Coyle, Michael Debrito and Carter Spirig scored in regulation for the Nighthawks.


The Ste. Anne Aces and Morden Bombers were winners in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League playoffs Friday night. Jordan DePape had three goals and two assists as Ste. Anne downed the Ile des Chenes Northstars 10-3. The defending champion Aces lead that best-of-five quarterfinal 2-0. Reed Peters made 40 saves as Morden shaded the Portage Islanders 2-1. That series is tied at one.


Jaxon Jacobson had a goal and an assist and Brett Hyland scored his 30th of the season in the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen at Westoba Place.


Brandon’s Kristen Campbell made 30 saves for her second shutout of the season as Toronto blanked Montreal 3-0. The Professional Women’s Hockey League game at Scotiabank Arena set a league and women’s attendance record of 19,285.
