It’s day two of the Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships. At the AAAA championships in Brandon….Steinbach Regional girls beat Fort Richmond, downed Winnipeg Vincent Massey and lost to Dakota. The Sabres will face the Kelvin Clippers and that winner advances to the quarterfinals. The SRSS boys lost to Daniel McIntyre, lost to Winnipeg Vincent Massey and beat Miles Macdonell. The Sabres will meet Dakota and that winner moves on to the quarterfinals. At the AAA girls championship in Altona...the Niverville Panthers lost to the host Miller Aces and will play their final two round robin games against Neelin and Linden Christian. At the AAA boys championship in Winkler...Steinbach Christian will meet Linden Christian with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals against Neelin. At the A/AA girls championship in Russell….Gabrielle Roy lost to Gilbert Plains and beat Reston. Les Roys will play their final round robin game against Rosenort. The A/AA boys championship is in Hamiota. Gabrielle Roy beat Goose Lake and MacGregor. Les Roy will play their final round robin game against Rosenort. Niverville defeated the Dakota Lancers in five set and will meet the Vincent Massey Vikings of Brandon on Saturday at the Provincial AAAA varsity girls championship in Winnipeg. Steinbach Regional girls will face Lord Selkirk and the SRSS boys will take on River East in their quarterfinals.


The Ste. Anne Aces scored three goals in each period and downed the Altona Maroons 9-2 at Sunflower Gardens in the lone SEMHL game. Keith Grondin scored twice for the Aces and Braden Purtill had a goal and four helpers. Bryan Ritsema, Brett Meilleur, Owen Blocker, Ken Selby and Tanner Harms also scored for Ste. Anne. Tristen Dueck and Justin Augert replied for the Maroons.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with offensive lineman Pat Neufeld. The Regina native returns to the Bombers for what will be his 12th CFL season and ninth with Winnipeg. Neufeld is coming off his second consecutive all-star season, having been named to the both the West Division and CFL All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik finished the round robin with a 5-0 record and Lisa Birchard was 4-1 at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall. Both teams will play in the quarterfinals today. Wasylik will meet Ron Schmidt of BC and Birchard will take on Chrissy Cadorin of Ontario.

 

The Niverville Clippers host the Springfield Xtreme on Saturday night. Clippers coach Dominic Martens will join Barry Lamb on the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Report which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
