The Manitoba Junior Baseball League leading Carillon Sultans face the defending champion St. Boniface Legionaires tonight at Whittier Park. The Sultans, who have a 13-2 record, swept a doubleheader from the Elmwood Giants Wednesday night at Koskie Field. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 4-1 decision to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Blue Cross Park. The RailCats, who swept the three-game series, led from wire-to-wire after shortstop Howard Rodríguez hit the first pitch of the ballgame over the left field wall. The Fish finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning. Left fielder Keshawn Lynch hit a leadoff triple to right field and later scored on shortstop Andy Armstrong’s groundout to short.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the B.C. Lions tonight. The Blue Bombers are 0-2 to start the season while the Lions are 1-1. Running back Brady Oliveira returns to the lineup after missing Winnipeg's 23-19 loss to the RedBlacks in Ottawa in week two. Oliveira is listed behind Johnny Augustine on the depth chart. The Blue Bombers have made five other changes. On are running back/kick returner Chris Smith, defensive ends Ali Fayad and Owen Hubert, defensive tackle Jamal Woods and defensive back Michael Griffin. Off are defensive back Deatrick Nichols, linebacker Max Charbonneau, fullback Michael Chris-Ike, wide receiver/kick returner Myron Mitchell, defensive end Celestin Haba and defensive tackle Miles Fox. Haba and Fox have officially been moved to the six-game injured list while Nichols was added to the one-game list. Winnipeg's Mike O’Shea will coach his 161st regular-season game tonight, the most in franchise history, passing the legendary Bud Grant. The game will feature a video tribute to Andrew Harris at halftime. Harris officially retired this offseason as a member of the Blue Bombers.


The Winnipeg Jets have announced the hockey club’s six-game pre-season schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season. The Jets open their pre-season at Canada Life Centre versus the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, September. 21st. The first road game is the next night against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. Winnipeg faces the Oilers at home on Wednesday, September 25th before traveling to Minnesota on Friday, September 27th for a rematch with the Wild at Xcel Energy Center. The Jets will meet the Calgary Flames at Canada Life Centre on Wednesday, October 2nd followed by the pre-season finale at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Friday, October 4th.


Canada fell 2-0 to top-ranked Argentina in its Copa America opener Thursday night in Atlanta. The 48th-ranked Canadians held Lionel Messi and Argentina scoreless in the opening half, but later conceded goals to Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez in the 49th and 88th minutes of the contest. Canada will face Peru on Tuesday at Kansas City and finish the group stage against Chile on June 29th in Orlando. 


The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association presented their annual High School Coaching Awards at its annual general meeting in Winnipeg. Jeff Paradis of. R.D. Parker Collegiate in Thompson was presented with the Nick Laping Leadership Award. Brent Blaine of Vincent Massey High School in Brandon received the Frank L. McKinnon Award for his outstanding volunteerism in high school sport. The 2024 Grey Cup Legacy Female & Male High School Coach of the Year recipients were Kelli Sinnock of Sanford Collegiate and Marshall Jones of Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg.
