The SRSS Sabres and Lord Selkirk Royals are going the distance in their Winnipeg High School Hockey League Platinum Promotions Division quarterfinal. The Royals defeated Steinbach Regional 4-1 and evened the best-of-three second round series at a game a piece. Lucas Thompson scored for the Sabres who gave up a pair of empty net goals late in the third period. The deciding third game goes today (4 p.m.) at the T.G. Smith Centre. 


The Eastman Selects dropped a 4-2 decision to the Yellowhead Chiefs at the Shoal Lake Communiplex in game one of their best-of-five Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League quarterfinal. Miikka Hanson and Kali Remillard did the goal scoring for the Selects. Eastman netminder Orieanna Kennedy made 39 saves. Game two goes Sunday in Niverville. 


The Morden Bombers are one win away from joining the Portage Islanders and Warren Mercs in round two of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League playoffs. Andrew Clark scored his second goal of the game on the power play 5:22 into overtime to lift Morden past Ile des Chenes 6-5. Jay Fehr also scored twice for the Bombers who lead the best-of-five quarterfinal two games to none. Jory Mullin and Keane Boucher also scored for Morden. Justin Metcalf had a pair of goals for the visiting Northstars. The rest went to Justin Tremblay, Matthew Osadick and Tyler Swerdyliak. Game three goes Saturday in Ile des Chenes. 


The Winnipeg Jets opened their four-game road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Former Jet Patrik Laine had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets while Joonas Korpisalo stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced. Kyle Connor scored his 25th goal of the season for the Jets who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. David Rittich made 21 saves in net for Winnipeg. 


The Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins tonight at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops. Four Manitoba teams are in the field of 18 and they include three-time reigning Canadian champion Kerri Einarson, Manitoba champion Jennifer Jones along with Kaityln Lawes and Meghan Walter who earned two of the three wildcard spots. Einarson and Lawes will play on tonight's opening draw. Einarson will meet Laurie St. Georges of Quebec and Lawes will meet Kayla Skrlik of Alberta. Jones and Walter play their round robin openers Saturday afternoon. Jones will take on Krista McCarville of Northern Ontario and Walter will meet Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge who received the other wildcard berth. 


CurlManitoba is hosting the 2023 Dynasty Mixed Doubles Provincial Championship at the St. Vital Curling Club this weekend. The event features 20 teams competing in a triple knockout format starting at 4 p.m. today and concluding at 4 p.m. Monday, February 20th when a new Provincial Champion will be crowned. CurlManitoba has not hosted a Provincial Mixed Doubles Championship since February of 2020. The event was held at the Brandon Curling Club that year, with Derek Samagalski and Krysten Karwacki defeating Steve Irwin and Stacey Irwin in the final.


The Springfield Xtreme meet the Landmark Blues Saturday night in Oakbank in game three of their opening round playoff series. Xtreme coach Kevin Augustine will join Clayton Dreger on the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Report which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
