Parents are taking advantage of special spring break programming here in southeastern Manitoba to give their kids something to do this week.

In La Broquerie, between 15 and 21 kids have taken part in the spring break camps at the HyLife Centre every day this week. Organizer Ian Dickey says the camps are put on by La Broquerie’s Leisure Services Department.

"We are a pretty new department so this is our second annual camp and then we do the same thing in the summer as well. We are having tons of fun with kids, we have art day and then we have a sports day, adventure day, cooking day, lot's of fun for the kids."

Dickey says the responses they have gotten from parents have been great and they hope to continue building on their programming to meet the need in the community.

Meanwhile, 38 students ages 5 to 12 have been taking part in the Spring Breakout Camps at the Steinbach Arts Council. Program Coordinator Randi Suderman says they have really enjoyed spending time with the kids, doing a wide range of art related activities this week.

"We have all kinds of theatre and dance, all kinds of art going on and field trips all over Steinbach to get the kids out and about. It is very busy, all the kids are excited to be out of school so we are trying to keep them busy and give the teachers the much-deserved break that they need."
