Single moms are being targeted this Christmas by an organization looking to give Gifts of Joy to people who are often overlooked during the holidays. 

Susan Penner with Life Culture in Steinbach says it was brought to their attention that single moms often miss out when it comes to receiving Christmas gifts, so they are collecting donations as well as nominations to fill this need. 

“Some of the donations that have come in, I've noticed those are from people who grew up with single moms. So, I know this is close to the heart of actually the children of single moms who are now adults,” she says. 

Until December 15th, Life Culture is collecting donations of items for these gift packages. 

“So, we're looking for things like nice candles, good coffee, maybe nice chocolates or other kind of self-care items, nice mugs or travel mugs, those types of things that women tend to like but can't necessarily afford if their budget is tight,” Penner offers. 

While Life Culture is always working toward promoting a culture of life and care, Penner notes this is the first time they are holding an official campaign directed at single moms over Christmas. She tells us how Gifts of Joy came to be. 

“A woman who works at a local preschool contacted me and she said, ‘look is there anything you can do for single moms?’ because she sees it in her job how these moms do so much for their kids but often get overlooked. So that was one of the things that sparked this idea. And then actually a staff member of mine came in and said, ‘how about we do something for single moms this Christmas?’ And I'm like, ‘you know what? Let's do it.’” 

Donations can be dropped off at the Life Culture office at 98 Brandt Street in Steinbach or you can make an online donation.
