The Steinbach Regional Secondary School is into round two of the Winnipeg High School Football League playoffs.

Quarterback Sawyer Thiessen ran for four touchdowns as the Sabres defeated the Sturgeon Heights Huskies 49-14 Friday night at IG Field in Winnipeg.

Thiessen also completed 10-of-25 passes for 272 yards including a 49-yard touchdown pass to Austin Dueck.

Isaac Dokken carried the football 16 times for 132 yards and a major.

On defense Dokken recorded a fumble recovery for a touchdown,

Rylan Penner was good on five-of-five convert attempts. Evan Giesbrecht made the other two. 

Thomas Peters had nine tackles, Tyson Bennett recorded six tackles and Ryan Kincaid broke up a pass in the end zone when the Huskies were third-and-goal.

Steinbach Regional outscored Sturgeon Heights 35-8 in the second half.

The SRSS will face the St. Paul’s Crusaders in the AAA Division semifinals Friday, November 8th at IG Field.

The opening kickoff is at 5 p.m.

The Sabres have won seven straight games since losing their season opener 22-14 to the Crusaders.
