Council for the Rural Municipality of Hanover has denied an application for a 19 lot subdivision, north of Sarto.

Myles Hiebert had hoped to rezone some land north of Deerwood Bay from Agriculture to Rural Residential. The land is located north of Road 30N and east of Road 31E.

At a public hearing last week, Hanover Council acknowledged the ten letters that had been sent to Administration concerning this proposal. Many neighbours wrote letters of objection or voiced concern over things like drainage, increased traffic, the deterioration of roads, an increase in crime and more noise. Also opposing the plan was the Province of Manitoba. Ward Five Councillor Darrin Warkentin also expressed concern with the fact a creek runs across this land.

"I would not be optimistic on this bylaw when it hits the minister's desk," said Hanover Planning Manager Jeremy Neufeld prior to Council making its decision.

Reeve Stan Toews says Council denied the application.

"The province also had quite a few concerns and were opposing it," says Toews. "It has to get ministerial approval and so if the province opposes it, there is not a very good chance that the minister would approve it anyway."
