Winter weather has caused hazardous road conditions in the southeast region, leading to the cancellation of some sporting events.

According to Manitoba 511, most highways in the area are partially snow-covered or have become slushy. Some roads may appear wet, but are actually icy, making them treacherous in spots.

As a result, the Steinbach Sabres game at the TG Smith arena in Steinbach has been cancelled for Wednesday. Additionally, the Steinbach Pistons game against the Portage Terriers, which was to be played in Portage, has also been cancelled due to the road conditions. The game will be rescheduled for a later date.

The special weather statement issued Tuesday continues to be in effect with more snow expected Wednesday evening, Thursday and Friday.  The wind is expected to pick up Thursday gusting to 60 km/h causing blowing snow.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling in the region and to avoid non-essential travel if possible.
