The Rural Municipality of Morris is considering sewer projects for two of its communities.

Reeve Ralph Groening says for several years now council has been discussing plans for sewer service in Riverside. Groening says the municipality is awaiting a final engineering report on the project which will identify numbers and estimates.

"We have no provincial funding and no support funding for that," says Groening. "So this will be an RM of Morris only kind of project. But we hope to go to the community with our proposal in March and ask for comments and hopefully be able to go ahead this year if the community agrees that this is essential and important to them."

As for whether or not this project is necessary, Groening says "I think the community feels it's necessary. There would be some individuals who would object." However, he says as a common good for the community, this would be a great project. "We really hope that we can pull together the kind of support that would allow us to complete that project. So we're hopeful."

Groening says the community of Aubigny requires this service as well. "We've been looking at the possibility of doing that, we don't have anything in place at the moment. But there's a community that I think has development potential, particularly if we had a lagoon in place that could offer that service."

Another project which Groening says could come to fruition in 2012 is a sewer project in Rosenort. The Reeve says for years there have been concerns for homeowners south of Rosenort. "It's always been a challenge to move wastewater from that region. So we are proposing and we have almost completed an engineer report on a six inch sewer line that would allow for the excess wastewater to be directed into the lift station. And it should, I think answer some of the challenges that have been there for many years now dealing with an excess of wastewater in those homes." Groening says he's hopeful that project can be completed in 2012.
