The Reeve for the RM of Reynolds says they expect to see growth in the Hadashville area now, with the revitalization of the former Pineland Forest Nursery.

As we told you last week, Botanist Organic Growers Corporation has purchased the facility with plans of growing hemp. The company says it will be investing tens of millions of dollars into hemp production facilities and research development. It also expects to hire over 200 employees over the next three years.

Trudy Turchyn says when Pineland was open, there was no incentive for employees to join the community because it was always up in the air whether the nursery would be the following year or not. She says they now have a better sense of stability and look forward to seeing growth in the area.

"This is a major accomplishment," expresses Turchyn, "it will bring a lot of new jobs to the area, full-time jobs hopefully for the existing residents, plus also attract new residents to the area and hopefully spin off businesses to help supply services to Pineland and also the residents."

Turnchyn adds they have approximately 30 residential lots in the area ready to develop with hopes of seeing construction activity within the next few years.

"There is always the service industry," the Reeve adds, "whether it’s welding, or maintenance, electrical, there are always services needed at Pineland because it’s such a huge facility." Turchyn says they also hope to see a gas station or other public services people can support, especially with population growth.

She adds being located along the Trans-Canada Highway will also work to their advantage, specifically between the months of April and October when there is significantly more traffic.
