A rented telehandler took out a bridge railing on Clearspring Road about a mile and a half east of Highway 12 shortly before 10:30 Monday morning.

Steinbach Fire Deputy Assistant Chief Mike Penner says a construction company rented the machine and the driver was headed eastbound.

Telehandler being towed out of the creek."I guess his windshield fogged up, couldn't see where he was going, took out a bridge railing and went into the ditch upside down," explains Penner. "Now we're just going to figure out how to deal with the diesel fuel that's leaking down the creek and also the vehicle that's upside down in the ditch."

Penner says the section of road remained closed while the machine was towed out of the creek and flipped over. He notes Manitoba Conservation was notified to see how much fuel leaked out of the 120-litre machine and was carried downstream.

Meanwhile, the RM of Hanover Public Works was notified to rebuild the railing of the bridge. Penner says the structure of the bridge is still intact, it's only the railing which was compromised.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital and the injuries are currently unknown.
