The La Broquerie Fire Department was called to a home along Twin River Road in Marchand early Saturday morning. Chief Alain Nadeau explains what happened.

"Around Midnight Saturday, we got called to Marchand for a chimney fire. The fire was basically out when we got there, the chimney did its job. But it's a good reminder to clean our chimneys at this time of year before we start heating them too much."

Nadeau says creosote has a flash point and when it gots hot enough to ignite, there is quite a rumbling in the pipe before it blows out the top of the chimney, sometimes quite violently.
