The Red River has now crested at Letellier.

According to Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, the river levels are above channel capacity at St. Jean, Morris and St. Adolphe. Water levels could rise above channel capacities at other locations within the Red River Valley depending on the precipitation received, the rate of melting and ice conditions.

The Red River is expected to crest north of Letellier sometime between now and April 16.

A flood warning remains in effect from Morris to St. Jean and at St. Adolphe. A flood watch remains in effect for all other areas between Emerson and the Red River Floodway.

The most recent precipitation system brought between five and 15 millimetres to much of the Red River basin on Wednesday and Thursday. The province indicates there is no significant precipitation event in the forecast for the next three days.

Pumping operations are underway at Emerson, West Lynne, St. Jean, Morris, St. Adolphe, Rosenort, Brunkild and Dominion City.

The Red River Floodway is expected to be operated in the next few days. According to the province, Highway 75 should remain open based on the current forecast.

Since Wednesday, the Red River has climbed 15 inches at Morris to 771.26 feet, 15 inches at Ste. Agathe to 762.15 feet and 12 inches at St. Adolphe to 757.53 feet. During that same period, the Roseau River at Stuartburn has risen two inches to 948.24 feet and dropped three inches at Dominion City (PR 200) to 778.57 feet. And, the Rat River at Otterburne has gone up one inch to 766.80 feet.

The Rural Municipality of Ritchot has announced the following road closure due to flood waters:

  • Waverley at LaSalle River Bridge, LaBarriere Park

Meanwhile, there is a risk of minor to moderate flooding in the eastern region including the Roseau and Rat rivers and the Whiteshell Lakes area.
