There is new information being provided today from Wednesday morning's fatal shooting in the Niverville area.

Manitoba RCMP say that on Tuesday at 8 pm, they received notification from Saskatchewan RCMP concerning a vehicle that had been stolen from Cypress River on May 22nd. Saskatchewan RCMP had seen the vehicle near Carlyle, and it was believed to be travelling to Manitoba. RCMP had reason to believe that there could be a firearm in the vehicle.

Police say the vehicle was located heading east along Highway 2 in Manitoba and then near Oak Bluff. Advisories were sent to RCMP detachments as well as the Winnipeg Police Service.

On Wednesday, at approximately 1:20 am, RCMP was asked to assist as Winnipeg Police Service had located the suspect vehicle and was following it into RCMP jurisdiction south of the city.

RCMP say they will not speak to the officer-involved shooting incident as that part of the investigation is the purview of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.

RCMP arrested a 34-year-old female off of Drovers Run in Niverville. Police say it was there that the driver of the suspect vehicle fled. It is also where a 30-year-old male passenger was located dead. The 34-year-old woman who was arrested was released without charge.

Police say efforts to locate the suspect who fled in an unknown vehicle continued into Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan RCMP later provided information on taking two suspects in a vehicle into custody. One of those is 29-year-old David Frank Burling. The other suspect is a 37-year-old female. Both were arrested without incident. The female has since been released without charges.

Burling has been charged with two counts of committing assault against a peace officer with a weapon, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to stop, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He remains in police custody.

"There is much more work to do on this investigation," says Superintendent Rob Lasson, Acting Criminal Operations Officer for Manitoba RCMP. "This was a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional event that was complex and had many moving parts, and all of those involved worked together toward the same goals - keeping citizens safe and getting the suspect in custody."
