RCMP put down a bear in Steinbach on Monday.

At approximately 4:45 pm, Steinbach RCMP received a call regarding a black bear in the south end of the city. It was seen in the area of Biscayne Drive and Alderwood Crescent.

Prior to the arrival of RCMP, several additional calls came in advising police that the bear was at Steinbach Regional Secondary School.

RCMP were able to locate the bear and attempted to escort it out of town.

Police say that unfortunately, due to the heavy pedestrian traffic and the behaviour of the animal, they had to put it down.

Manitoba Conservation was advised and assisted with the removal of the bear.
