Steinbach RCMP stopped 1,516 vehicles as part of its Holiday Checkstop Program.

In 26 total checkstops, there were two Criminal Code Impaired Driving charges, two Criminal Code Impaired refusals and seven alcohol-related administrative suspensions.

Meanwhile, during the month-long program, there were 250 checkstops province-wide. Through a combination of checkstops and regular patrols, RCMP charged 122 people with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence. Six people were killed in traffic-related collisions last month, including four by snowmobile. Three of the six collisions reported are suspected to involve driver impairment.

By comparison, during the 2015/16 Holiday Checkstop Program, there were 205 checkstops. RCMP charged 105 people with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence. Six people were killed during the course of the program.
