With various street construction projects in Steinbach, RCMP reminds motorists to pay attention to changes in traffic signs.

Community Constable Dennis Redikop says, even in construction zones, drivers need to make room for emergency vehicles.

“When we’re going to an emergency, every second counts. So, you have to be mindful of that.”

When there’s only one lane traffic through a construction zone and you see emergency vehicles approaching, Redikop says to pull over to the right as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Not only are motorists watching for changes to traffic flow through construction zones, but there is also an increase in pedestrian traffic.

“Be mindful of who’s out,” says Redikop. “Whether it’s crossing the street or somebody riding on a bicycle on the road, whether it’s kids or adults. It's important for motorists to be mindful of that and beware of their surroundings.”

This summer, we can expect a major redesign and the rebuilding of the intersection of Loewen Boulevard and Brandt Street.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing at the Loewen Boulevard lift station and should be completed by the end of June.
