The City of Steinbach has a number of roadwork and infrastructure projects planned for this coming summer.

There has been a lot of talk about the major redesign and rebuild of the Loewen Boulevard and Brandt Street intersection, but it isn’t the only project set to take place.

Aaron Rach is the Head Engineer for the City of Steinbach. He says the city's first project should get underway in the next week or two.

Hanover Street, just a short mid-block segment between Reimer Avenue East and Barkman Avenue, we're going to be replacing the wastewater sewer and the water main, as well as reconstructing the roadway.”

He notes that project will ensure there is proper access to the new Southeast Event Centre.

Rach says they are also planning a water main renewal project for Penner Street

“Penner Street runs between Barkman and Reimer Avenue East. We have a cast iron water main that's being replaced, and the west side of the roadway will be rebuilt, the concrete curb and the asphalt will be resurfaced to restore the area after the water main installation.”

Finally, Rach says it’s not a road construction project but crews will be seen working on Brandt Street between Loewen Boulevard and McKenzie Avenue this summer.

“We have on Brandt Street, a number of catch basin repairs. That is a maintenance program to repair catch basins that are along the side of the roadway, catch basins that over time have some sediment build up or some pipe damage and things like that.”

These catch basin repairs should help with drainage along Brandt Street going forward.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing at the Loewen Boulevard lift station across the street from the old Steinbach Family Medical Clinic. Rach says the lift station is receiving a major upgrade and the project should be completed by the end of June.

Regarding the Loewen and Brandt intersection upgrade, Rach says there should be more information regarding the construction timeline available shortly and the city is planning an open house for residents in the near future.
