The provincial government announced more than $100,000 in grants Friday for Springfield.

Manitoba Sustainable Development will provide $23,180 to the Rural Municipality of Springfield to help limit the impact and spread of Dutch elm disease.

"Our government is committed to protecting Manitoba's environment, and that includes controlling the spread of Dutch elm disease," says St. Paul MLA Ron Schuler. "This grant will enhance measures to protect our community from Dutch elm disease through greater awareness and increased tree removal capacity."

An additional $84,150 is going to the Cooks Creek Conservation District in order to improve the health of the Cooks Creek watershed and its residents.

"Our government understands the critical work that conservation groups do around the province," notes Schuler. "And is steadfast in keeping Manitoba the greenest province in Canada."
