Steinbach city council has received the drawings(above) for a proposed new housing development at the corner of Loewen Boulevard and Hirschfeld Road. That's just north of the Deerfield subdivision.

The area will be called Williams Creek and will include more than 400 fully serviced housing lots. Mayor Chris Goertzen says it's an impressive proposal. "Williams Creek is a major development on the east side of the city. When you look at what they are planning, they are planning some single family, some multi-family and interspersing that and trying to plan that out quite significantly. They've thought long and hard on this project. It's come to First Reading. We're looking forward to the public hearing on this to hear back from the public. They've put a lot of work into it and made sure that the plans are well thought out and efficient."

City council has given First Reading to a By-Law to rezone the area for residential use. A public hearing is expected in the near future, likely in June.

Councillor Michael Zwaagstra, who moved First Reading of the By-Law, says, "This is a significant proposed development. It proposes to have a variety of zonings within it, residential low density, medium density and also some park space as well. The initial plans look quite promising and we certainly look forward to hearing from the public and the developer when the public hearing happens."
