The Christmas lights are up at Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, ready for another season of Winter in the Village.

Program manager Robert Goertzen says it is nice to have snow around to add to the festive scenery, but it might be a while before all the winter activities are happening.

“We’re going to start making ice for an ice rink shortly, but I don’t think there will be any of those activities until January,” he says.

As the weather allows, they will work on creating trails for snowshoeing, kick-sledding, as well as tobogganing.

For now, there are bonfires on the weekends complete with marshmallows to roast over a toasty fire, as well as sleigh rides, plus some cozy indoor activities for the whole family.

Winter in the Village kicked off last weekend as the snow was falling. Goertzen says the poor road conditions kept some people from being able to attend, but he notes there is still time to enjoy the Christmas lights and holiday activities at the Mennonite Heritage Village.

While standard winter admission rates apply for this event, Goertzen notes anyone with a membership can get in free and attend as often as they like.

“There’s lots to do to enjoy the space and enjoy the outdoors.”
