Steinbach Feeds has asked city council to limit parking on Friesen Avenue, north of Main Street, so big trucks have an easier time getting on and off their lot. Council referred the matter to administration. Chief Administrative Officer Troy Warkentin says staff recommended a 'No Stopping' zone on the east side of Friesen from Main Street up to the strip mall entrance.

"The recommendation is that that zone, from the intersection of Main Street and Friesen Avenue up until that access point, actually become a 'No Stopping' zone for the purpose of traffic visibility and safety. The second recommendation is that, although the opposite side of the street is already considered a 'No Parking' zone, it is not signed as such. And, the recommendation is that the signage be erected."

City council was unanimous in approving both recommendations. Councillor John Fehr, who made the motion, says this should definitely improve safety.

"I think it's going to make the area a lot safer. It's a very, very tight corner and they bring in a lot of feed and they bring a lot of industry into the city and they need a bit more room to make that corner. And, I think this will enable that to happen. It'll be safer for people in that area."
