The Town of Niverville is investing $1.1 million dollars into their streets and sidewalks in 2024, which is a lot more than past years.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck explains how they have fixed streets in past years.

“Normally when we're doing our patching and our seal coating, we will cut, say, 50 feet of road. We'll cut it out and we'll resurface it. And the budget for that in the past has generally been around that $200,000 to $300,000 mark,” he says. “Last year we did even diminish from that account to do some other things, but this year we're not only putting that money that we held back, but we're also putting more in.”

Myron says that in previous years, including the sidewalks, they would spend around $400,000 or $500,000, but this year’s budget is more than double that.

“So just making that a greater priority this year, it will mean we're going to hold off on some things in some other departments, but that is more of our priority for this year.”

One things they held off on last year because of pricing was the rebuilding of Fourth Ave. South, which they will be doing this year.

They will also be fixing Church Ave. and a section of Edelweiss Cres. which is in close proximity to Niverville’s middle school.

“Arrington Way is an access point off of Sixth Ave. that just got really alligatored bad, and there's some pockets where it's just crumbling. And Hampton Dr. has a dimple close to Claremont St. and Hampton North area, as well as the building of Drovers Run Path and a back lane sidewalk behind the MCC.”
