The Provencher Member of Parliament announced this week he will be dropping nearly three hundred thousand dollars in the constituency.
Ted Falk says nineteen organizations will receive $294,087 for projects under the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
"That's a program that our government has established to provide funding for seniors groups to promote active living among seniors," he says. "It's a way of helping them with some of their infrastructure needs."
Falk notes the funding is not contingent on seniors groups putting up money of their own in any way. And while some of the projects are for bricks and mortar, there are many groups that will use the money to upgrade flooring, counter tops, tables, appliances, exercise equipment or computers.
"This is one hundred per cent funding for whatever project that the community centre submits an application for," explains Falk. "It's one hundred per cent funding for whatever they ask for."
Under the New Horizons for Seniors Program, up to $25,000 in grant funding can be provided to eligible organizations for community-based projects that are led or inspired by seniors.
"Our government recognizes the valuable contribution seniors have made to our society and the economy," says Falk. "By supporting New Horizons for Seniors Program projects, we are acting to ensure that seniors maintain a good quality of life and continue to be active members of their communities."
