The U11 Mitchell Mustangs won gold this last weekend at the Niverville Heritage Classic.

The Mustangs defeated the St. Boniface Seals 4-2 in the A Division Championship.

Head Coach Colin Campbell says what sets this team apart is how much these kids enjoy playing with each other.

"They just have fun coming to the rink and I bet if they could be at the rink two hours before a game just talking with each other and just having fun, they probably would," adds Campbell.

Not only that, but he says there is a very high compete level on his team.

"They look you in the eyes as coaches and they are saying 'Tell me what I got to do next,'" says Campbell. "They want to be successful."

Campbell says in the gold medal game, they talked about winning each period and then winning each shift. He notes when the final horn sounded it was pretty special to see the gloves, sticks and helmets get tossed into the air and the players crowd their goalie in celebration.

Mitchell beat Steinbach 6-4 in their first game and followed that up with a 15-0 victory over Fort Gary. Their third game of the tournament, against Brandon, ended in a 5-5 tie. In the semi-finals, Mitchell defeated Niverville 7-0 before beating St. Boniface in the final 4-2.
