Hugh McFadyen

We are into week two of the provincial election campaign. The Progressive Conservatives announced a number of commitments last week to entice voters. Leader Hugh McFadyen has outlined several crime and punishment related initiatives, including GPS tracking of dangerous sex offenders and more support for Manitoba's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) units.

Other crime initiatives announced by the Progressive Conservatives last week include:

- Make provincial support for 30 officers across Manitoba permanent, as opposed to the 3-year commitment offered by the NDP.
- Leverage social media tools and publish "Manitoba’s Most Wanted" on sites like Facebook to help the public join the fight against crime
- Provide MPI fraud investigators with peace officer authority to ensure they are better able to crack down on fraud used by gangs
- Never sit on federal government money intended to hire police officers
- Never delete outstanding warrants

Meanwhile, the PC's also promised to implement at $20 million per year Manitoba Community Investment fund which would provide funding to community facilities around Manitoba. McFadyen tells us this would be an increase of $5 million per year over current NDP funding levels.

Manitobans head to the polls October 4th.
