Steinbach's mayor is disappointed to see Staff Sergeant Davy Lee is moving on. Lee has accepted a promotion to Inspector which will take him to Vancouver.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says city council has been very pleased to have him here managing the detachment, adding, "I think Davy Lee did very well with the resources that he was given, both by the province for the rural detachment, as well as the city. He worked very hard to make sure that our priorities were met. And, I think we saw evidence of the General Investigative Unit that he put together with some other regional police forces and I think they were a great success."

Mayor Goertzen says the city is writing a letter to RCMP management, asking to have input into the selection of a replacement for Lee. He explains, "We do want to have some say. Administration has some pull in that regard and so we want to make sure it's a good fit for our city and our region."

Mayor Goertzen adds the change in leadership at the detachment will have no impact on the Mayor's Task Force on Public Safety. He says the Task Force is looking at a whole range of public safety initiatives which includes policies and other matters in addition to policing.
