The Mayor of Steinbach says the city has been left with a heavy heart following the tragic events of this past weekend.

A father and son were found dead Saturday in a home on Parkwood Cove at the south end of the city. Police continue their investigation to determine what happened.

Investigation continues at Parkwood Cove home.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says it was difficult to hear the news about the deaths.

"This is something very rare for the people of Steinbach. Obviously, people do pass away, but when it's in a tragic fashion and unexpected fashion, it brings about a lot of different emotions for people. I think this is a reminder to make sure that we connect with our neighbours, connect with our friends and really hold them dear and also help them if they do need help."

Goertzen says while we don't know the details about what happened, police are working on that and more information will come out at some point. Regardless he says it's a tragedy for the entire city. Goertzen says it was especially sad to get this news over the Easter weekend.

"When many people are celebrating family times here in the city over Easter, and then to have this tragedy of two people dead in our community is very unfortunate and obviously, the entire city feels for the family, the people involved, the neighbourhood. The challenge of this is going to be felt for many months and years to come."
