The unemployment rate in Manitoba declined 3/10ths of a point in August to 5.4 per cent.

Statistics Canada reports that's due to a combination of more part time jobs and fewer people looking for work. The province's jobless rate is now second-lowest in the country behind Saskatchewan's 4.5 per cent.

Nationally, the unemployment rate in August went up one-tenth of a point to 7.3 per cent.
